New Orleans part 4

Our trip was coming to and end and we still had so much to see! One of the last things we did was a cemetery tour. I chose to go with a tour group for a few reasons. A group is safety in numbers which is important because the tombs are above ground with lots of little places for people people to hide and jump out at you and yell boo (or steal your wallet). A tour also gives you information with out me having to read! (yay)

Beware the Voo Doo 

Marie Laveau's tomb. Know who she is? I didn't either...that's why I took a tour! She's a voo doo queen....or was...best to respect the tomb :)

Unfortunately, the cemetery is on concrete and walled in...so it's incredibly hot and there is no air flow to speak of. This works great for the dead people who basically cook down to ash in their toasty little tomb/ovens. This does not work great for the living, however. Josh and I were sweating bullets after this tour...we were practically dead ourselves! We headed for a quick lunch and cocktail and then spent the rest of the day ridding a street car around the Garden District. This was probably about the dumbest thing we could have done because there was no a/c and I have a history of not tolerating the heat. I wasn't feeling to great after this day so we turned in early.

We got up insanely early to head back to our darling baby boy who had spent the weekend at "camp". Everyone was exhausted. Josh told me once we were home that he always feels like he needs a vacation from my vacations :) Maybe one day I will plan a vacation where all we do is sit on a beach, but I don't think it will be anytime soon! There is just so much to see and we haven't even scratched the surface!

New Orleans Part 3

When we decided to go to New Orleans, Josh had only two things he really wanted to do. The first was go to a Plantation. The other was a swamp tour. Now I was down with the Plantation tour, but a swamp tour didn't sound like my cup of tea...it sounded hot, and muggy, and buggy. I really didn't think I would enjoy going to the swamp (because I am not a swamp kinda girl), but it turned out to be the most fun I had on the whole trip!!

An honest to God Cajun village. As our guide said..."if you hear banjo music, paddle faster"

The first lesson I learned on the swamp (besides to paddle away from banjo music) was that alligators like marshmallows :)

In fact, alligators will come right up to your boat for these delicious treats.

After feeding some gators, we headed into the swamp. It was surprising cool and breezy and there weren't any bugs to speak of! No wonder I liked it!

It was also fairly pretty :)

Our guide was a little under the weather but he was still pretty funny. He even brought a long a little friend

I also held the gator, but I was the only gal on the boat brave enough.

Found one!!!!

This handsome fella goes by the name of Brutus and is one of two males that live in this part of the swamp. Fun fact...the males are very territorial and eat all the young males so that the only gators are female. Makes for good dating odds :)

New Orleans Day 2

We started our day off with a Po Boy lunch and it was delicious. It had roast beef and ham and probably wasn't something I would have normally ordered, but when in rome....
After lunch we headed out to Oak Alley plantation.. It was incredibly beautiful....and also hot.

Josh was jumping for Joy...he just loves trees

Another fun part of the tour....mint juleps. Did I mention you can buy and bring alcohol almost everywhere?

After the tour of the plantation home, we were a little disappointed. No one bothered to answer the question of how it got the name "Oak Alley". I guess the world may never know.

After the Plantation we stopped by the world famous Cafe Du Monde for some cafe au lait and beignets.

Josh was worried.....

But then I told him it was coffee and doughnuts and he happy :)

Then Josh got attacked by a bear. The End.

New Orleans

May 26 marked our 5th year anniversary and we decided to take a little trip. We wanted to go somewhere fun with lots of site seeing and activities and New Orleans fit the bill. We stayed in a B&B on Bourbon Street so we were within walking distance to all the fun the french quarter had to offer. We spent our first afternoon walking up and down the colorful streets.

After a very long, hot afternoon we headed out for a night of ghost hunting on a night tour of the French Quarter.

They gave us little bat fans since it was about 200 degrees outside. Josh was confused on how to use them.

A bunch of naughty little boy ghosts are supposed to haunt this hotel and mess with all the guests 

 This is house had a really nasty history and we were told there we many restless spirits here. I like to think I captured some "orbs" with my camera. Josh likes to think I had a dirty camera lens. We may never know.

I was worried the Ghost Tour would be a little cheesy but our guide was a lot of fun. She told us a lot of history which is always appreciated when in a new place. Josh and I headed back for some sleep shortly after the tour was over since we had a lot of super fun planned for the next day.
