Germany part 3: Oktoberfest day 1

We started our day with a 2 hour highway drive and then getting lost in Munich! trying to find a parking place in this city is darn near impossible. Luckily, we got lost enough that we ended up right next to our hotel and they let us park in their lot while we rushed to the train station to catch our tour. We made it with about 5 minutes to spare! Our first tour was a quick 2 hour jaunt into the Oktoberfest fairgrounds. Our guide took us around and pointed out some interesting places as well as giving us a history of Oktoberfest.

These are pictures taken as we walked around the fairgrounds. Don't be fooled by the lack of people.....it was only 10am on a wednesday! By 3pm, the place was packed full of people!

After our tour, we had a 5 hour beer tent reservation at the Hofbrauhaus. This tent was really cool and decorated with hops.

Again, don't mind the empty seats...within an hour of arriving the place was packed with crazies dancing on tables and singing.

Beer! Prost!

Our lovely waitress and Josh with his beer

Our goofy group of tour pals! The guy and the girl sitting behind me were from Australia....They both had their giant LITER of beer emptied before I was even a quarter of the way through mine! Germans have nothing on Australians!

This is hard

All done! Unfortunately for me...we each had two beer tickets which meant I had one more whole Liter of beer to drink! I had to go with a Shandy though, so technically I only drank 1.5 liters of beer.

Pretzel Lady!!!! Josh only ate about 8 or 10 of these giant pretzels.

Josh impressed everyone with his ability to order beers in German!

Josh has maybe had a little too much

The party has started!

This is the view from the Ferris Wheel.....soooo many people
